About Georgia Jeffries
Writer/Producer

Georgia Jeffries is a multi-award winning writer/producer of ground-breaking television and film drama.

Her most recent teleplay is based on the best-selling memoir, Walking Out on the Boys, for Emmy-winning producer David Rosemont. After scripting the adaptation of Bebe Moore Campbell’s New York Times Notable Book, Your Blues Ain’t Like Mine, for Showtime, she wrote the original docudrama, The Good Soldier, for HBO and was also one of the contributing writers on HBO’s Emmy-winning historical drama, Iron Jawed Angels. Her filmed adaptation of the Joe Flaherty novel, Tin Wife, on which she served as Executive Producer/Writer, aired on USA Network and has been released under the title of My Husband’s Secret Life on Universal Home Video.

Before focusing on cable films, Ms. Jeffries made a name for herself as a showrunner in series television. In addition to creating ten pilots for ABC, CBS, NBC and Showtime, she was Supervising Producer on the critically acclaimed China Beach. Her script, How To Stay Alive In Viet Nam, starring Oscar winner Haing Ngor, won a Humanitas Prize nomination. The series was recognized with seven Emmys and two Golden Globe nominations for best television drama. She went on to serve as Executive Consultant on the Emmy-winning Sisters, and Co-Executive Producer of New York News.

Her first staff position was Writer/Producer on Cagney & Lacey, the CBS series that pioneered strong female leads in primetime drama. During her three seasons with the show, it was honored with fourteen Emmys for writing, acting, directing, editing and best dramatic series. She also earned two Writers’ Guild Awards, the Humanitas Prize and the Inter-Guild Merit Award.

Angels In The Snow, a feature screenplay adapted from Ms. Jeffries’ novel, was inspired by the mystery behind Los Angeles’ Looking for Mr. Goodbar murder case. Her other feature film scripts include Confessions for Universal Pictures and Nobody’s Fool which won the Gold Award for Best Screenplay at the Houston International Film Festival.

Ms. Jeffries is a professor at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts where she became the second woman on the Writing Division faculty to be awarded tenure. She teaches MFA and BFA thesis and created the first course in writing the TV drama pilot. She has been a guest lecturer at the American Film Institute, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Paley Center for Media, the Banff International Television Festival, the Melbourne National Screenwriting Conference and Australian Film Institute.

Currently a Contributing Editor for Written By, the magazine of the Writers Guild of America, she serves on the Executive Committee of the WGA Foundation Board of Trustees and is former Executive Vice President of PEN USA West, the international writers’ organization dedicated to freedom of expression.

Raised in Peoria, Illinois – also the childhood home of two of her favorite heartland iconoclasts Betty Friedan and Richard Pryor -- Ms. Jeffries graduated cum laude from UCLA and began her career as a journalist with American Film. Her essay, The First Time They Told Me I Write Like a Man, was published in Harper-Collins’ The First Time: Tales From the Hollywood Trenches. Her commentary is featured in Women Who Run the Show and The Huffington Post.
