A woman in her 80’s- and Elizabeth Grant still hasn’t stopped. She hasn’t stopped living her life as she always has, she hasn’t stopped inspiring women around the world that it’s ok to laugh and thrive and be happy, she hasn’t stopped her philanthropy, she hasn’t stopped dreaming, and she certainly hasn’t stopped CEOing a multi-million dollar company. Who said that life stops at 60, 70, or even 80? Elizabeth Grant leads a life that teaches us all that we can fulfill our dreams and be successful at any age.
It was WWII when a young Elizabeth found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Elizabeth was walking down the street in her hometown of London, England when a bomb dropped nearby and her face was hit by shrapnel. For years, Elizabeth worked hard at covering up her skin with large sunglasses and makeup. It was a difficult time for her as she was always conscious of how she looked. Her fortunes soon changed in 1948 when she read about a substance that was being used to treat war wounds. Elizabeth met a chemist and asked him to develop the substance for her. Within 8 months her skin started to show signs of a remarkable improvement and recovery. The glasses came off and she was living again.
At the time, Elizabeth was working as a make-up artist at Elstree Studios in London. She worked on many famous faces including: Vivian Leigh, Edward G. Robinson, Sean Connery, Robert Taylor, and Noel Coward. Soon many of Elizabeth’s clients were begging for her skincare secrets. That is when Elizabeth had her “Ah ha!” moment. Elizabeth realized she had a superior ingredient that could give all women beautiful skin. She refined her formulation and called it Torricelumn.
In 1958, at a time when it was very unusual for women to start their own business, Elizabeth founded her skincare company called it Elizabeth Grant Skincare. Elizabeth soon was invited by the British department store, Selfridges, to sell her skincare line with its miracle ingredient, Torricelumn. Today, Elizabeth Grant continues to CEO Elizabeth Grant Skincare, now based out of Toronto, ON, and she continues to be the spokesperson for the company on shopping channels around the world.
Most people know and love Elizabeth from watching her on television but that is not her only talent. She is also a playwright, a novelist, a mother, a grandmother, and also professional speaker who is often hired to speak on success. Elizabeth inspires her audience with stories of the obstacles and hardships she has faced and how she’s accomplished her dreams and goals. She also speaks on the obstacles that come alongside being a woman with big dreams in the 1950’s to the different obstacles a woman faces in her vintage years. Through sheer determination and exceptional perseverance, Elizabeth has also continued to succeed at age when most retire.
Elizabeth Grant’s legacy teaches us that while looking good is important, a more vital component is that we have to maintain our passion for life, that ‘joie de vivre’! Not only does she tell us, but she is also the perfect example of her credo: A woman is never too old to go after her dream – because life doesn’t stop at 70.
Elizabeth is a woman whose beauty is two-fold; it radiates from the inside and the outside. She inspires us with her beauty, her energy and her spirit.
