About Susan R. Legaspi CPA CFF EA ACFE
Susan Legaspi is a Partner with Zuehls, Legaspi & Company (ZLCO). ZLCO is a full service firm comprised of three practice areas which focus on (1) Exempt, Governmental or Nonprofit organizations, (2) Tax Compliance & Consulting and (3) Fraud, Forensic and Litigation Services.
Susan is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), IRS Enrolled Agent (EA), and an Associate Certified Forensic Examiner (ACFE) with over 15 years experience working with nonprofit organizations and governmental entities. Seven of those years was spent working with the Big Four accounting firms of: (1) KPMG in their Exempt Organizations Group as the manager in charge of overseeing and managing the entire west region compliance center and (2)Deloitte & Touche’s Nonprofit Division, prior to joining EOAG.
Susan’s clients included universities and other educational institutions, foundations, health systems and other health care providers, managed care entities, scientific research organizations, retirement and low-income housing providers, museums and other cultural institutions, religious organizations, athletic organizations, charities, social welfare organizations, trade associations, pension funds, social clubs, fraternities and governmental entities. Susan has also worked on several high profile fraud and forensic cases with various governmental agencies.
Susan has authored and co-authored over 30 articles while she was employed at KPMG and while at Zuehls, Legaspi & Company. She writes updates on various nonprofit topics for various newsletters. Susan is uniquely positioned as an inspiration to many developing staff because of her journey from an immigrant to running very small businesses to CPA and CEO. She is constantly sought out as (1) a speaker on developments in the nonprofit and governmental world, (2) invited by her peers to give technical training sessions and (3) give motivational and inspirational talks to various groups. She sits on the board of several nonprofit organizations. She works pro bono in assisting clients by (1) helping new nonprofits file and obtain their exemption determinations, (2) providing free consulting, accounting and tax service, and (3) assisting in training the Board of Directors. Susan actively assists various Filipino associations and immigrants by providing financial, consulting and mentoring assistance.
Susan is the first Chairman of the National Executive Board of the International Society of Filipinos in Finance and Accounting (ISFFA) and is responsible for establishing the formal mentoring and leadership programs. As a founding advisor, she is a mentor to several young professionals as well as college students. To-date Susan has been a mentor to over a dozen young and seasoned professionals, students and immigrants in the past two years alone.
Susan has been the past recipient of several awards and most recently received the 2008 Asian Entrepreneur of the Year award – Service Category from the Asian Enterprise Magazine and the Outstanding Woman Award from the Kiwanis Club -Philippines.
