Sammie Kennedy Women's Fitness Expert
Sammie Kennedy is the creator and CEO of Booty Camp Fitness, Inc., Canada's largest women's-only physical training boot camp program. In four years, she has expanded her business from 1 to nearly 100 locations across Canada. For the positive effect Sammie has sparked in the lives of over 45,000 women, she is receiving TheWIFTS Foundation Elizabeth Grant Entrepreneur Award 2011.
When Sammie made a 2005 New Year's resolution to get in shape, she never dreamed it would be lead to a career of fitness modeling and then owning a chain of fitness centers. Within two years, however, she had begun training individuals and almost immediately the demand for her service became so great that she began training other instructors and opening Booty Camps. For the next two years, her business doubled in size every quarter.
Ranked as one of the top five trainers in both Canada and the USA by a popular fitness chain, Kennedy is one of Canada's top elite trainers. She boasts a wealth of expertise when it comes to fitness, exercise, nutrition and, moreover has the talent to make changing one's lifestyle to a healthier regimen all FUN.
Kennedy has been recognized as both a savvy businesswoman and a leader in the Canadian fitness industry. PROFIT magazine has recognized Kennedy on their annual W100 list in 2010 and 2011, ranking Booty Camp Fitness 37th and 30th, respectively, and the fastest growing company on the list in both years. Women's Post, a national magazine for women in business, dubbed Kennedy as one of the Top 20 Women in Canada for her work in bringing awareness of fitness and health to ladies across the country. In 2011, both Sammie and Booty Camp Fitness have won numerous accolades including Best Gym/Fitness Club (Now Magazine), Top 20 Entrepreneurs Under 30 (FuEL Awards) and 18th spot on the PROFIT Hot 50.
A study measuring employee engagement conducted by Hewitt Associates and Queen's University School of Business found Booty Camp Fitness to be among the best Small Medium Employers in Canada, placing first in 2010 and third in 2011. Kennedy's business was also listed number one on the list of the Top 50 Employers in the GTA.
Kennedy has starred in three home workout DVDs and authored two books, A Girl's Guide to a Healthy & Sexy Booty and Booty Camp: It's More than Just Movement.
Mainstream media actively seek Kennedy out when writing their business, fitness and lifestyle sections. She has been quoted in the National Post, the Toronto Star, CBC, Metro News, ELLE Canada and Breakfast Canada, to name a few. Elevate magazine has deemed Kennedy in the top three "of Canada's best-know and most-skilled fitness gurus."
When quizzed about how she was able to build such a successful company in such a brief time, Kennedy singles out passion and enthusiasm as the key. With these two elements as a foundation, whatever the career choice may be, an entrepreneur will have the drive to learn more, expand horizons, and find solutions to any challenge that may present itself.
