Tributes To Lenora Blanco
TheWIFTS Lifetime Achievement Honoree 2014 (Film)
We have been privileged to know Lenora and Tony for over thirty years. More than learning from them about the film business, we saw them as clear role models for the virtue of integrity, the importance of fairness, and the blessings of generosity. And, just as important for me, Lenora, you showed how forcefully a woman could use her skills and establish her credibility in world of business. And, happily, Lenorita has learned those lessons well. How proud you must be of her! You have touched so many lives. In the mid '80s, you and Tony established the Antonio David Blanco Jr. Fund at UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. To date, this endowed fund has nurtured over 50 young filmmakers by providing scholarships and fellowships in filmmaking. What a gift! Lenora, you continue to be my inspiration. Love, always, Ellen
'Lenora and Tony Blanco were without question THE pivotal couple in the international film scene from the seventies through the nineties. Despite being incredibly hardworking and knowledgeable they were above all such fun to be with. I remember sharing many happy, uproarious times in LA, NY, Caracas, Cannes and Milan and their generous spirit and inclusive nature meant that work just became a ball! I salute you, Lenora, and congratulate you and your wonderful family on this very well deserved award!' With love, your old friend Julia x – Julia Palau
"Lenora and Tony are bound together forever
and they were and are: The greatest and the most successful couple in the movie business. Loved and honored by everybody and Lenora continues this special and unique way of love for Tony and her wonderful family ". - Gabriella Pinson
"The brilliant Blancos! The dynamic Tony and Lenora helped so many people get started. Always tried to acquire the film if they possibly could. Positive, constructive, always great fun to be around and if they bought it, other territories would too! Recognising Lenora's skill in picking indie movies and successfully running their distribution and exhibition company, is overdue. This award is well deserved." David Blake
"Lenora Blanco, along with her husband Antonio, have been stars in our business. Although they weren't the stars that you see on the screen in our cinemas they have been stars on the business side of our business and without them a lot of independent movies and producers would not exist today. Throughout the last forty years when they said "yes" to a movie that sale to Venezuela was not just an endorsement for their country nor for Latin America but it also carried weight with many other distributors worldwide that the film was commercial as their opinion was greatly appreciated as well as sort after worldwide in a time when distributors relied on knowing that other distributors would buy your film. - Larry Meyers
"Andy and I met Lenora and Tony at the Cannes Film Festival in the late 70s. Over the years, our business relationship took us to an even stronger
and personal bonding level. Lenora and Tony were solid partners in their Business. On a personal level, I know I can always count on sound advice from them. I always looked at Tony being the 'Captain of the ship' and Lenora the 'Anchor'. Lenora: You are still 'Anchor' to me and to a lot of your friends.
We love you!" - Ceci Vajna
"We first met Lenora and Antonio Blanco in the late 60's when a legal client was selling films to them for Venezuela. We became very close friends and traveled the world together having great fun. We were able to see first hand her brilliant mind at work concerning her overview of the entire film business. She is possessed of the highest honesty, integrity and loyalty and we have no doubt, if she wished, she could run any company in the world. She is very special woman who we love and admire greatly." Anne and Arnold Kopelson.
