AUSTRALIAN WRITER DIRECTOR CATE SHORTLAND HONORED BY TheWIFTS FOUNDATION FOR 'LORE'
Cate Shortland, Australian writer and director for film and television will be honored at TheWIFTS Foundation 2012 International Visionary Awards for her brilliant work as a director of her feature film 'Lore'.
'Lore' is a gripping story of survival set in the aftermath of World War ll with a screenplay adapted from Rachel Seiffert's novel 'The Dark Room'. Ms. Shortland, a native of New South Wales , is a graduate of Sydney University and the Australian Film Television and Radio School where she received the Southern Star Award. Her first feature 'Somersault' debuted in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2004, won numerous awards worldwide and was released in fifteen different countries.
'Lore', her second feature, premiered in competition at the Sydney Film Festival, won the Prix du Public at Locarno International Film Festival, received four top honors at the Stockholm Film Festival and has been selected as the Australian entry for Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 85th annual awards ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Womens' International Film Television Showcase (thewifts.org) is an organization dedicated to bringing together women from all walks of life through the art form of Film and Television, Business, the Humanities, the Environment and the world of Sports. This year's event will honor more than twenty women from eleven countries and six continents. The organization prides itself in recognizing women of the twenty first century who with talent and conviction strive to make a difference in today's world.
TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary awards, now in its fifth year, will be held in Los Angeles on December 1, 2012 at Quentin Tarantino's New Beverly Cinema with Red Carpet interviews beginning at 1pm followed by the awards ceremony at 2pm.
