TheWIFTS Foundation Film Awards 2017

TheWIFTS Foundation Film Awards 2017 were chosen by TheWIFTS Screening Committee from a pre-selected group of films that met the overall criteria of aims and objectives as set forth by The Women's International Film & Television Showcase (TheWIFTS) The Women's International Film & Television Shorts Showcase (TheWIFTSS) The Women's International Film & Television Documentary Showcase (TheWIFTDS) and TheWIFTS Foundation.

From its inception in 2008 until 2011, TheWIFTS presented a week-long event during which films were screened and voted on by a Jury. In 2011 TheWIFTS Foundation concluded it would be in the best interest of both the filmmakers and their films to initiate a Screening Committee comprised of kindred spirits who embody TheWIFTS core ethos of individuality.

After viewing many films, TheWIFTS 2016 Viewing Committee made their selection. The award-winning films were not only chosen for their content, originality, and sensitivity but also in some cases with an eye to the filmmaker's entire body of work.

Unlike society's norm of pitting talent against talent, TheWIFTS Screening Committee will continue to strive for Equality not Hierarchy by seeking out unsung yet supremely creative women, and celebrating the unique individuality they have expressed through the art forms of film and television.

The Barbara Tipple Best
Best Actress Award 2017

Kelly Macdonald
An actress with a range that has proven to be without borders, Kelly Macdonald has worked consistently in film and television since her breakthrough role in the original Trainspotting (1996). Since Trainspotting, Macdonald has appeared in at least three film per year coming full circle with a role in Trainspotting 2 in 2017. In Goodbye Christopher Robin, Kelly Macdonald demonstrates that she is eminently qualified for a Leading Actress role given the right script. Whilst the ensemble cast was abound with fine actors, Kelly Macdonald commanded the role of Olive the Nanny in a performance that was palpable with love and affection for her charge Christopher Robin, yet never upsetting the role of the Mother in the child's eyes. For her performance in Goodbye Christopher Robin and her body of work in Film & Television, Kelly Macdonald is the recipient of The Barbara Tipple Best Actress Award 2017.(image courtesy IMDb)
